Shasta-Cascades Area Festivals – 2023
While most visitors travel to California’s beautiful Shasta-Cascades area to commune with nature instead of hanging out with the locals, the fun foodie events listed below are worthy of consideration. There’s a lot to enjoy here — many Humboldt County events and in other nearby counties, as well — and we’ve found that the locals are friendly, too!
Olives grow well in this area, and even if you can’t attend the Olive Festival you should make an effort to sample some of the oil that’s produced from them here.
Beer is well represented on the festivals list, of course, as one might expect from an area that gave birth to Sierra Nevada Brewing. There’s also plenty of salmon, and the combination makes for some super-tasty harvest season fêtes! Fall is our favorite season here.
The area’s citrus crops are top-notch, too, with the much beloved Mandarins coming on the scene between November and January.
FUN FACT: Citrus production began here in 1856, when Judge Joseph Lewis purchased three seedlings in Sacramento and planted them in Oroville. The “Mother Orange tree” they produced turned out to be the start of something BIG. According to the Butte County Assessor’s records, 75 acres of orange trees had been planted in the county by 1863, and by the turn of the century orange grove acreage had ballooned to 3,300! Although it’s been moved a few times, that Mother Orange tree lives on and produces a bountiful crop to this day. It’s now a California Historical Landmark located at 400 Glen Drive in Oroville. How cool is that?
The list below shows the 2022 festival schedule. When added, 2023 dates will be ***noted with a triple asterisk*** to avoid any confusion. In addition to the event date, each entry indicates the hosting city and is linked to a website where you can find additional details. If you plan to attend an event, we highly recommend that you make note of the website and recheck it closer to the actual date.
